Mental health challenges, social isolation, and emotional instability are showing up earlier—and stronger—than ever before. Schools are overwhelmed. Families are stretched thin. And while the world aches for kindness, teaching kids how to practice it is more important than ever. That's why we created the Miss Dorothy's Garden Legacy Project.
We believe kindness isn’t just a good idea. It’s a transferrable skill. A strength. A seed.
And when planted early, it grows emotionally resilient children and families and turns every neighborhood into a blooming garden.

Inspired by Dorothy Witherspoon's century of service, the Miss Dorothy's Garden Legacy Project includes the award-winning children's picture book, Miss Dorothy’s Garden: 9 BEE Attitudes to Grow By, innovative programs, and practical tools.
We're here to equip children ages 5–8 using the BEE Attitudes by teaching them how to:
Sow kindness in themselves and others
Face life’s challenges with resilience
Turn every neighborhood into a garden
From classrooms in San Francisco to the Alexandra Township in Johannesburg, South Africa, this movement is spreading one child, one BEE Buddy Box, one act of kindness at a time.

Dorothy Witherspoon has lived a century of service. To honor each year of her impact, we’re looking for 100 Champions to help raise $100,000 in 100 days to launch the next chapter. You can give it yourself, raise it through your network, or both!

We Started With a Seed
This didn't begin with a budget. It began with a burden.
We set out to tell the story of a 100-year-old woman whose century of service is a guide to kindness. And her example became a vision to help children develop emotional resilience as they face mounting pressures.
What is now a growing movement started with a single idea to write Miss Dorothy's Garden: 9 BEE Attitudes to Grow By with just $1,300 in seed funding from family and friends. What has it yielded?

BEE Buddy Ambassadors will join us on our mission to South Africa for the BEE Buddy Program launch in Alexandra Township in Johannesburg.
You’ll pay a flat fee to Vivid Academy for housing and meals, raise your own airfare, and fundraise your total gift through your friends, family, church, or neighborhood businesses.
You’ll sow kindness with your own hands and heart. You’ll witness firsthand the impact.
